Sansevero Chapel Museum

Sansevero Chapel Museum was created to celebrate and remember Raimondo di Sangro’s family. His origins, dating back to the end of 16^th century, are rooted into a legend: in fact, the Chapel was built in a garden where Virgin Mary appeared to a man, according to the tradition. In the middle of 18^th century, Raimondo di Sangro, the clever and curious 7^th Prince of Sansevero, transformed the family Chapel into a treasure chest.

Here visitors are overwhelmed by the magnificent ceiling fresco of The Glory of Paradise that catches the observers’ eyes by pulling them upwards. In the middle of the Chapel, the famous Veiled Christ statue dominates and watches over the inner perimeter sculptures that tell visitors about the virtues everybody should be nurturing. This artistic trail reflects the spiritual one undertaken by the Prince, straddling science and esoterism

Museo per tutti guide offers a discovery trail of the Chapel, starting from a detailed vision of the large ceiling fresco, followed by the analysis of some of the most meaningful statues. The descriptive focus proposed in the guide allows easy access to the monument and helps people with intellectual disabilities understand the highest and most symbolic meanings embodied in the artwork. The Chapel stands as a highly stimulating place, with an outstanding concentration of artworks; the large number of visitors suggests the choice of the most suitable visiting hours for special targets.

No photos are allowed inside the Chapel; in case of need, tired visitors can look for the dedicated seats located inside it, but no resting areas are present.
